Chunky Mushy Peas
A perfect accompaniment to a traditional British meal - fish and chips. Mushy peas are a blended split or marrow pea mixed with heavy cream, butter and seasonings. Delicious!
Ingredients
1 bag frozen green peas or fresh peas(10 ounce)
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon butter
Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Dried mint (optional)
Depending on the type of peas you want to use depends on the cooking method. I prefer to do this recipe with frozen sweet peas as they get tender quicker and I always have a bag in the freezer available.
Some pea brands can be steamed in the microwave in a bag; whereas some need to be boiled in hot water. Follow the cooking instructions on the package best suited; and cook through.
If you have fresh peas, bring a pot of lightly salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add peas, and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until tender.
Drain peas, and transfer to a blender or large food processor. Add heavy cream, butter, salt and pepper, and process until blended, but still quite thick with small pieces of peas. But thickness can be done to your own personal taste and preference.
Adjust seasoning to taste, and serve.
Additional Tips :
- To add some depth, you can add dried or fresh mint, or lemon juice to the mixture to taste.
